Amol Lalzare
My name is Amol. I wish to represent the urban poor in Mumbai, especially the slum dwellers. I live in a slum called Sathe Nagar Basti. I strongly feel that my community is kept outside of the development process happening in Mumbai. But I love my city. Mumbai is the city of light, and a city that never sleeps. I decided to take a role in India Unheard because I know the strength community media has in people's life. I have been working for several years as a community producer in “Hamari Awaaz”, a Community Video Unit. Us, the slum dogs, we need to voice our problems by ourselves, or we will always be misrepresented. That happens with my community, mainstream media writes that we still defecate on the streets and dirty the area. They forget to write about the lack of civic facilities we face. India Unheard is a way to make a call to the people around me. They have been voting enthusiastically for years, without noticing any change around them. Making videos will be a way to tell them that they should now stand up and fight for their rights.

Amol Lalzare has produced 25 stories for us.
